Since we have become more plant based, the one thing we really enjoy is the A&W plant based Beyond Beef Burgers.
What is the secret ingredient to make it taste so good? The secret is a BBQ, and the flame broil taste that it creates.
So I decided this would be a great opportunity to share an easy to make recipe with using the Beyond Meat ground packages. Making them a Regular size and a Whopping size!
2 ground packages makes 3 Regular and 2 Whopping Burgers as seen in the picture below.
How long does it take to make:
It take 5 minutes to make the burgers, and 6 minutes to BBQ. For such an easy, and tasty meal.
It’s easier to measure out if you fill a 1/3 cup for 1 medium size burger. Or double it to make a big whopping size (2/3 cup)
DIET TIP and DIGESTIVE ISSUES:
- If you are watching your calories, use a lettuce wrap or knife and fork, to cut down on the high amount of carbohydrates. 1 medium size burger is 250 calories, with a good amount of protein at 19 grams. 1 medium size burger is 1/3 cup.
- Using a gluten free bun, or gluten free bread. My favourite is the Gluten Free Schar brand Sourdough bread or gluten free buns.

Whopping Flame Broiled Beyond Beef Burger
These flavourful plant based burgers need the BBQ to create that flame broiled burger taste. I used the Beyond Beef Burgers but other plant based burgers will do as long as you don't over cook them.

- Mixing bowl
- BBQ
- Spatula
- 1/4 and 1/3 cup
- 1-2 packages Beyond Beef Burgers or 1 Ground Package (Any plant based burgers will work. Fresh or frozen.)
- 1/4 cup Buckwheat Flakes or Oatmeal Flakes or Quinoa Flakes (Avoid Oatmeal if you are sensitive to any Gluten products.)
- 1 spray olive oil lightly on each sides of the burger
-
Preheat BBQ to 400°F (200°C)
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine together the Beyond Meat and the Flakes of choice.
-
Using the 1/3 cup to measure out for regular size burgers, and 2/3 cups for the whopper size burgers. 2 packages of beyond ground beef makes 3 medium size and 2 whopper size Burgers. Roll each of them into a ball. Gently pat and flatten slightly in the palm of your hand, and round the patty's making sure they are the thickness of your hand. If they are too thin they will fall apart.
-
Spray olive oil on both sides of the burgers and place on a plate. Create the next burger.
-
When the BBQ is ready and cleaned, place the oiled burgers on the grill, and close the lid. Set timer for 6 minutes. Make sure the temperature stays around 400°F (200°C). Flip the burgers over at 3 minutes to continue cooking the other side. Do not over cook or they will dry out. These are plant based so you do not have to worry about them being undercooked.
-
Prepare all the fixing like slice tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, Dijon mustard, onions, lettuce, and sliced pickles. Prepare the gluten free bread, buns or lettuce wrap.
-
When cooked, place the burgers on the bread or buns, add your fixings and enjoy!
